"Government should take it seriously and a JIT should investigate and charge the culprits", says Mufti Muneeb

Grand mufti of Pakistan Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman addressed a joint press conference in Lahore with Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi about Havelian tragedy. He revealed that local administration asked them to mediate a couple of days before the procession and DC Abbottabad agreed to him on his suggestions that TLP will not chant against local administration or any sect and cause disruption. "He (DC Abbottabad) contacted me on Friday and agreed to what I said, then no contact was made on Saturday and Sunday. Then I got this awful news on Monday morning," said Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman.

"It is the worst example of state brutality and clearly a case of intentional murder/mass killing attempt. We demand a joint investigation team (JIT) consisting of authorize persons from government and representatives of TLP to investigate into this incident and charge the culprits."

"KPK government is claiming to form a committee and has included the alleged responsible persons of this incident to the team. It's just like asking a cat to keep a pot of milk," said Grand Mufti Azam Pakistan.

Answering to a question, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman clarified that, "the people who contact us from government are the people who don't have authority to make decisions and are just messengers. If anyone (from government) is taking it seriously, then someone with authority should contact us.

"All false cases and FIRs should be dropped immediately against the participants of the procession and imprisoned people should be released as soon as possible," Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman demanded to release all arrested participants. "They can do it in one day if they want it seriously," he answered a question which asked if TLP was going to announce a deadline for the government to release its workers.
